About JISC CETISJISC CETIS is an Innovation Support Centre for UK Higher and Post-16 Education sectors funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC), and managed by the University of Bolton. The Centre provides strategic advice to JISC, supports its development programmes, represents the sector on international standardisation bodies and works with the educational community to facilitate the use of standards-based e-learning.Working with Standards InitiativesIn recent years, the rapid uptake of e-learning has given greater impetus to efforts in learning technology interoperability, requiring the creation of learning technology standards. These have been developed most notably in IMS but also in Europe with CEN/ISSS and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and ISO (International Standards Organization). For over ten years JISC CETIS has played an active part in these bodies developing standards in a wide range of e-learning domains including: content, metadata, enterprise, assessment, learning information, accessibility and learning design.Community DevelopmentJISC CETIS ensures that the UK Higher Education, Further Education and other post-16 education institutions are involved in the development and implementation of educational technology standards by running events for communities with particular interests. In addition we also run Expert Working Groups which develop specifications and community guidance on emerging technologies. These activities provide communities with the opportunity to share their experience and knowledge, and to support each other's activities. We hold our annual conference in November each year at which our invited participants set the development agenda for the coming year. Supporting JISCOur work also involves providing direct support to JISC for a number of their development programmes, including the JISC e-Learning Programme, and the e-Framework.WebsiteOur website provides daily educational technology news, features, information and resources. We cover developments in projects and standards as well as reporting on events. Our aim is to contribute to current debates and future thinking in this rapidly growing and changing field. The web site also provides details of the many events that we organise throughout the year. Our TeamJISC CETIS is a distributed organisation managed by the Institute for Educational Cybernetics at the University of Bolton, and partnered by the University of Strathclyde and Heriot-Watt University. Our 22 members of staff have a wide range of experience and expertise in educational technologies and the education sector. Further information about the JISC CETIS team is available in the Contact section.
