Much of the work of JISC CETIS is underpinned by the principle of openness.
"Openness means ensuring that there is little or no barrier to access for anyone who can contribute to a particular development or use its output." Wilbert Kraan, JISC CETIS Assistant Director.The Centre promotes various aspects of openness including:
1. open development processes and governance models for interoperability specifications and standards (open standards); 2. open access to standards documents, educational content, educational tools and widgets, and educational applications of Linked Data and the Semantic Web (open educational resources, open administrative data, open assessment); 3. openness of educational communities of practice and interest.
